Mohun Bagan Day - 29th July, 1911
Mohun Bagan AC is the National Sports Club of India. Mohun Bagan AC is one of the oldest football clubs in Asia, having been established on 15 August 1889.

However, the most important day in the club calendar is 29th July celebrated every year as Mohun Bagan Day. On 29th July, 1911 the football team lifted the IFA Shield for the first time in 1911 defeating the British.

It was not just a final match. It was an act of defiance against the illegitimate rulers. The match was moving towards a draw when the fortunate crowd who witnessed the audacity of the "bloody natives" taking on the "Gora Paltan" (British Regiment) started chanting Vande Matarm (Hail Motherland!) which was a banned outcry and an act of sedition at that time.

The Immortal XI fought out of their skins and engraved their will to revenge the insult of their motherland in the football field by putting a last minute goal across the British defense. History was created infront of a 80,000 strong crowd.

As a report in  The Empire says: “All honour to Mohun Bagan!! Those eleven players are not only a glory to themselves and to their Club and to the great nation to which they belong; they are the glory to the game itself.”

Mohun Bagan Atheltic Club founded in 1889 is not just a mere football team.

It is recognized as the only National Club of India not just for the trophies and shields it has won over the years. It is a club that has created history again and again.

FIFA U-17 World Cup ticickets went on sale at 19:11 IST on May 16, 2017 to commemorate the historic day!
